We rendezvous in Ypsilanti for the beginning of a trip that, besides the Holland Tulip Festival, includes the highlights and attractions of Michigan, “The Great Lakes State.” Many RV Parks we stay at have fresh water fishing available, so if you are a fisherperson, you’re in for a treat. From Ypsilanti we tour the Ford Assembly Plant where we walk above the workers on an elevated walkway giving you an up-close view on how automobiles are built. You will walk through a gallery of legendary vehicles produced by Ford Motor Company starting with the Ford Model A to the new Ford F-150.
Next, we visit America’s Greatest History Attraction, The Henry Ford Museum (Museum & Village). Henry Ford began to collect the results of the genius he saw around him. It soon grew to become one of the largest collections of its kind in the world. Examine the theater rocking chair in which President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated, see R Buckminster Fuller’s Futuristic Dymaxion House or Rosa Park’s City Bus that fueled the U.S. civil rights movement. See John F Kennedy’s Lincoln that carried him in Dallas in 1963. See the great collection Henry Ford accumulated.
Next you relive the history of actual buildings such as Thomas Edison’s Laboratory, the Wright Brothers Home and Workshop, Noah Webster’s Home plus much more. Rediscover America at Greenfield Village.
In Marshall, we scheduled the U.S. Postal Museum and an interesting visit to the American Museum of Magic.
In the Traverse City area we visit some famous Lighthouses and the great Sleeping Bear Dunes. In Leland we step back in time as we explore this small, charming fishing village. We finish the day touring the Leelanau Peninsula and stopping at a popular winery. The next day we spend quality time at the famous “Interlochen” School of the Performing Arts. Next to Juilliard in New York, this school is the best! You will enjoy this interesting day.
En route to Sault Ste. Marie we stop at the Music House Museum located in a “100-year-old” barn, which has a large collection of rare, and unique antique automated musical instruments. Started in 1668, Sault Ste. Marie is the oldest city in the mid-west. We visit the Soo Locks Visitors Center. One of the Highlights of your trip is actually riding through the Soo Locks on a two hour narrated dinner boat cruise. We finish the day with a guided city tour and a tour of a 1917 Lake Freighter at Valley Camp.
In Mackinaw City we step back in time and enjoy life without motorized vehicles. You’ll experience the history, legends and beauty as you explore Mackinac Island aboard a narrated 1-3/4 hour horse drawn carriage tour, visit Fort Mackinac and many other interesting points of interest. This evening we’ll enjoy a campfire on the beach with a splendid view of the Mackinac Bridge in the background.
World famous Frankenmuth, “Michigan’s Little Bavaria,” is the most visited spot in Michigan. We visit Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland, the worlds largest Christmas store, tour the Frankenmuth Cheese Haus, Frankenmuth’s Historical Museum and the new “River Place.” You may walk down main street to watch and hear glockenspiel, stroll across the largest covered wooden bridge built in the twentieth century, attend any number of music, art and folk festivals and enjoy unlimited shopping opportunities. Also included in your package is a Paddlewheel Riverboat Cruise on board the “Bavarian Belle” and a Family Style Farewell Dinner at the world famous Zehnder’s Restaurant.
