TOURS, EVENTS & PARADES
We start the rally on Saturday with a get acquainted reception and traditional King Cake ceremony complete with selection of our rally king and queen.
Sunday we start the week by viewing two parades in uptown New Orleans.
Monday we enjoy a comprehensive guided New Orleans city tour to include all the highlights you have heard or read about. Our guide will tell us some very interesting stories about the history of the sites we see. Brunch is at the famous “Court of Two Sisters”, where we enjoy live Dixieland music as we dine in one of the most elegant Creole restaurants in New Orleans. This afternoon we tour the world famous French Quarter and learn why New Orleans is one of America’s most interesting cities.
Tuesday we travel the Great River Road and Plantation Country. We visit the “Laura” Creole Plantation built in 1805 and used as the base for the actual “Memoirs of Laura.” We tour “Oak Alley,” a traditional Greek revival, antebellum plantation built in 1837. We enjoy an exquisite lunch on the grounds of this beautiful plantation home.
Thursday we visit the state-of-the-art National World War II Museum and then enjoy a relaxing sightseeing cruise including lunch aboard the stern wheeler “Natchez”. That evening we view the Krewe of Babylon parade.
Friday we experience fun, food and folklore as we watch our hilarious Cajun/Creole chef prepare traditional New Orleans dishes at the New Orleans School of Cooking. Afterwards, we enjoy the lunch that our chef prepared. In the afternoon we visit world famous Mardi Gras World for a behind the scenes tour of the world’s largest float building operation. Here we can taste King Cake and see the huge Mardi Gras floats under construction.
You will never forget the next few days as long as you live. For your comfort and convenience, we have reservations at a private viewing stand to use as our home base to watch the parades and action going on in the street. Saturday evening we watch the ultimate Mardi Gras parade, the “Krewe of Endymion.”
Sunday we mingle with the locals and make use of our reserved seats on the parade route to watch the Okeanos, Thoth and Mid-City parades during the day. We have contracted with a nice restaurant downtown for dinner this evening followed by admission to our reserved viewing stand to watch the granddaddy of all parades, the “Krewe of Bacchus.” We have a birds eye view to enjoy the hoopla throughout the evening and party the night away.
Monday we catch our breath as we have an instructor with all materials helping us make our own Mardi Gras costumes. This project is fun.
Fat Tuesday! This is it! Mardi Gras Day! It is traditional to start Mardi Gras day mingling with the crowd. From our reserved seats, we can venture out to marvel at the costumes, join the crowds and dance in the streets or just relax, sit back and people watch. The oldest and most prestigious of all parades, “Rex,” the king of carnival, will be along around noon. Three other parades, the Krewe of Zula, Krewe of Elks and Krewe of Crescent City are also on today’s agenda. Don’t put off this experience of a lifetime. Plan now to join us for Mardi Gras in New Orleans. You’ll be glad you did.
Campground & Accomodations
• Consider the extensive itinerary plus first class accommodations and treatment received.
• We use luxury buses with bathrooms instead of school buses or shuttle buses for all of our tours and transportation.
• We stay at an RV campground, not at a city park or open field. The sites have water and electric hook-ups. A honey wagon is included for your dumping needs. You will be very pleased with this campground.
