Thursday gives us two more exciting races, The Legend Cars Race and the Thunder Cup 50 Race.
Saturday is one of the top races of the year. The 300-mile Nationwide Carquest 300 Race.
The Coca-Cola 600 is one of the biggest racing events in the country and begins late Sunday afternoon and runs into the evening. A unique, state-of-the-art lighting system provides illumination for this spectacular high-Banked oval track. The longest, and some drivers claim, most grueling event on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Circuit, the 600 is considered one of stock car racing’s “Big Four.
We have some of the best-reserved seats in the house as we enjoy these races from our preferred seating area in the Veranda. These seats are not normally available to the general public. They are elevated so we can see the whole track and across from Pit Row where much of the action takes place.
Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC is a beehive of racing activities every May during “Speedweek.” The Sprint “Pole Night” kicks it off with time trials for NASCAR’S All Star Race.
We see many other special events during the week including Nationwide Carquest 300, Coca-Cola 600 “Pole Night” qualifying and the Sprint Cup “Happy Hour.”
Prior to the “Coca-Cola 600” we enjoy the pre-race activities, which include jet flyovers, and many other special activities. WOW! What a week.
CAMPGROUND
Our Full Hook-up RV Park is the best in the area and located across the street from the Speedway. You will be pleased with this RV Park.
TOURS AND EVENTS
We charter motorcoaches to visit and tour the race related areas outside the Speedway. On Monday we spend quality time at the popular Bill Davis Racing Shop before heading to Welcome, North Carolina stopping for lunch on the way. In Welcome, we tour the Richard Childress Museum, his racing shop and new winery. We finish the day in Kannapolis, North Carolina, where Dale Earnhardt, Sr. went from hometown hero to a national legend. We stop to see his memorial and tribute center plus Curb Motor Sports, which was Dale’s 1980 championship Race Shop, and the garage that Richard Petty raced out of. We have a private reception planned with Martha Earnhardt (Dale’s mother), so we can visit, take pictures and get her autograph.
Wednesday we take an extensive guided tour to see many of the famous garages in the area. We start out with Dale Earnhardt, Inc., “the race shop of tomorrow.” Then it’s on to the JR Motorsports shop and “5 off 5 on” pit crew-training center. We see how they train these guys to fuel the car, change four tires and clean the windshield in 15 seconds. We enjoy lunch at the famous NASCAR-themed Lancaster’s Restaurant. Next we visit Sam Bass Motorsports Art Gallery. Sam is the official artist for NASCAR and designs uniforms, helmets, cars, and logos for many of the drivers and their teams. Sam signs autographs and guides the tour himself, if he is available. We finish the day by visiting the Hendrick’s Racing Complex, which is Jeff Gordon’s Garage and Chip Ganassi Racing.
Friday we start by visiting the Backing Up Car Museum followed by the Roush Racing shop. Next we head for downtown Charlotte to enjoy the festivities of the “Speedstreet” festival. We return by early afternoon to enjoy the qualifying races at the track.
If you are a racing fan, you will never forget these 11 days of racing action for as long as you live. Join us! You’ll be glad you did.
