Join our experienced Alaska Wagonmasters and
Staff as Adventure Caravans takes you on the
caravan experience of a lifetime to America’s last
great frontier, “The Land of the Midnight Sun.”
Where else can you experience gorgeous green
countryside, the magnificent natural beauty of
mountain ranges, shimmering lakes, cascading
waterfalls and free roaming wildlife?
We see 1800s stage shows, glaciers and Mt.
McKinley (North America’s highest mountain),
standing at 20,304 feet. Relive the Gold Rush
of 1898 and try your hand at gold panning. The
scenery and wildflowers are spectacular along the
beautiful Alaska Highway, Cassiar Highway and at
the “Top of the World” Highway. We usually see
many wild animals on this tour: Sheep, caribou,
elk, moose, bear (both cubs and adults), wolf and
bald eagles to name a few. If you are a fisherman,
join in on a fisherman’s dream; the salmon will
most likely be running in the Kenai Peninsula
while we are there and giant halibut fishing is
available in Homer, Seward and Anchorage. Enjoy
scrumptious salmon, halibut and staff hosted
dinners, both scheduled and spontaneous.
Please compare the length of our tours, the cost,
the itinerary, etc. with our competition. We are
sure you will be pleasantly surprised with what we
have to offer. These full service tours are longer
than most other caravans and designed for leisure
travel with time to relax, shop or explore. We have
taken great care to ensure you don’t miss any of
the best sights and tours on this once in a lifetime
trip. Our staff is committed to our guests and are
eager and willing to share their knowledge and
experience with you. They want to ensure you
have the best RV trip you’ve ever had.
In Dawson Creek, BC we enjoy a visit by the
Tourism Director who welcomes you to the
beginning of the Alaska Highway. Before leaving
we have a group picture taken at the official start
of the Alaska Highway at Milepost “0.” Take your
cameras with you when we tour a big and small
game farm and enjoy a special included dinner
while at the ranch.
In Fort Nelson we visit the Heritage Museum.
From there, it is a scenic drive to Liard River where
admission is included to soak and relax in the
outdoor hot springs. Next is Watson Lake known
as the Gateway to the Yukon Territory. Here we
tour the interesting Alaska Highway Interpretive
Center, view the “State of the Art” Northern Lights
Photosymphony Show and explore the “Signpost
Forest” which was started by a homesick
soldier in 1942. Over the years, tourists have
continued adding signs showing the names of
their hometowns. Bring yours and add it to the
collection of more than 22,000 signs. En route to
Whitehorse, we cross the Continental Divide and
make several sightseeing stops along the way.
This part of the Yukon Territory is very scenic. At
Whitehorse we tour the SS Klondike and attend
the popular and hilarious Frantic Follies Vaudeville
stage show that evening.
Next we head north and take the Klondike Loop
into the heart of the Yukon where we can have
great cinnamon buns and see Lake LaBarge of
“Cremation of Sam McGee” fame.
In Dawson City there’s plenty of things to see
and do as we step back in time into a Gold Rush
boom town. Take a walk around this notorious
gold mining town and relive the glory days of the
Klondike Gold Rush. While in Dawson City we
have a chance to strike it rich and wander through
the Visitor’s Centre. You’re in for a treat when
we visit the interesting places of business in this
quaint little town from the pages of history. Pretend
it’s 1898 when we go to Diamond Tooth Gerties
Gambling Palace and enjoy the Gold Rush Days’
atmosphere and perhaps do a little partying before
attending their live stage shows. Admissions are
included as part of your Alaska tour package. You
will never forget your visit to the “Midnight Dome.”
This place is where we see the sun set and then
rise all at the same time. What an experience!
En route to Chicken, Alaska, we cross the Yukon
River and drive along the “Top of the World”
Highway where the scenery is unbelievable. It is
on this highway that we drive within 165 miles of
the Arctic Circle. We have plenty of time to pan
for gold or do some exploring in Chicken before
we celebrate our arrival by holding a “Welcome to
Alaska” party that evening.
At Tok, we have time to explore Alaska’s Gateway
City and take advantage of fantastic souvenir
shopping while there.
On our way to Alaska’s interior we make a stop
at Delta Junction to receive an “End of the Alcan
Highway” certificate verifying your arrival. We also
make stops at Rika’s Living History Homestead,
the Pipeline Information Station and the city of
North Pole where we visit Santa Claus’ house
before reaching Fairbanks. Here we enjoy exciting
days including a bus tour of the Fairbanks area.
We see the Ice Museum and stop for lunch at
the “Pumphouse.” We pan for gold and ride the
El Dorado Gold Mine train on a tour of a “hands
on” working gold mine. That afternoon we enjoy
an unforgettable experience at the University of
Alaska Museum. Another Fairbanks highlight
is a guided four-hour cruise aboard the Stern
Wheeler “Riverboat Discovery” on the Chena
and Tanana Rivers. This cruise includes a stop
at an Athabascan Indian trappers camp. While
in Fairbanks there is time for you to shop, relax,
explore, fly to Barrow or take an optional drive or
flight over the Arctic Circle.
Now for fun filled days at Denali National Park
(near the foot of Mt. McKinley) where we take
a photo safari via chartered tour bus. We go
through the tundra and along the rocky cliffs, both
of which are alive with Wildlife including moose,
wolves, bears, caribou, marmots, sheep, fox and
other kinds of animals. Lunch is included on this
picturesque tour. You may choose to go on an
optional Nenana River float trip while here.
En route to Anchorage we stop at the Iditarod
headquarters. Your Anchorage itinerary includes
an excellent Anchorage city tour including many
interesting sightseeing opportunities. The
Wildberry Theatre is our host for a fantastic dinner
followed by a live stage show. One morning we
enjoy the Alaska Native Heritage Center where we
see native dance performances and local native
demonstrations, explore authentic native housing
and experience the local native culture. This is
one of the best heritage centers in all Alaska.
Their motto is: “Explore the past, Experience the
people.”
The small coastal community of Seward has
fast become one of our favorite stops. Here we
enjoy the Kenai Fjords Glacier and Wildlife Dinner
Cruise. We have reserved table seating for prime
rib and Alaskan salmon, consistently rated as the
best dinner of any Alaska cruise ship. The cruise
is narrated by a national park ranger featuring
towering Alpine, Cirque and Piedmont Glaciers.
Watch for lots of wildlife, birds, puffins, eagles and
whales on this cruise.
We have included both a sea life tour of the Alaska
Sealife Center and a “behind the scenes” guided
tour which takes us into the labs and areas where
the general public is not permitted. This town is
interesting to see and we have allotted plenty of
time to explore the city, the harbor area and Exit
Glacier, one of the most accessible glaciers in
Alaska. It is part of the Kenai Fjords National Park
and offers opportunities to view bald eagles, black
bear, moose and mountain goats.
Next is Homer (The Halibut Fishing
Capital of the World), where we view
snow covered mountains and glaciers
plus sea otters and sea birds galore.
Adventure Caravans hosts a staff
barbecue cookout at the RV park.
Optional halibut fishing trips, fishing
in the “hole” and Gull Island trips are
offered here.
Start your Kenai visit with a scenic
drive along the Kenai River. Need
more excitement? Try your luck at
“combat salmon fishing” or watch
others participate in this exciting
sport. Our campsite has a fantastic
view of volcanoes, the mouth of
the Kenai River and white beluga
whales.
We drive along scenic Turnagain
Arm to the “bread basket of
Alaska,” Palmer, where huge
cabbages are grown. The next
day (Except 34-day & 43-day
Calgary trips) includes a guided
bus tour of the Palmer area and a visit to the
Colony House and Pioneer Farms including lunch.
We also stop at a musk ox farm where we get up
close and personal with these beautiful animals.
That evening is spent visiting with Bill Utecht
who gives us an interesting history talk about this
beautiful area.
We visit Worthington Glacier en route to Valdez,
where you enjoy the “Switzerland of Alaska.” Here
you have a chance to enjoy the beautiful ambiance
and explore this magnificent city. Another highlight
of this trip is the Wildlife and Columbia Glacier
boat cruise of Prince William Sound including
lunch. On board we have a chance to view wildlife
and learn about the mining, oil, earthquake and
fishing history plus hear stories about the first
people to explore and live in the Sound. If you
are a fisherman, Valdez is a good place to catch
world class salmon. We visit Worthington Glacier en route to Valdez,

museum, a barbecue dinner and a fun evening
of homespun Yukon entertainment is part of our
program here.
In Skagway we take a self-guided walking tour of
this historic small town to find out what it was like
during the Gold Rush. We attend Monte Carlo
night and the Soapy Smith Vaudeville Show one
evening.
Now for the moment you have been waiting
for! Next is our all day boat cruise to Juneau,
Alaska. We board early morning and start out
with a continental breakfast as we cruise through
Lynn Fjord, the continent’s largest and deepest
Glacial Fjord. We make several photo stops as
we travel the inside passage seeing lots of bald
eagles, wild animals and hopefully whales on the
way. Arriving in Juneau, we enjoy a city bus
tour including a guided tour of the State Capital
Building, Mendenhall Glacier, the Waterfront and
other interesting places. We have a couple of free
hours to enjoy downtown before heading back.
We board our boat at 5:00 PM that evening for
our cruise back to Skagway which includes a light
dinner on board. An optional side trip while in
Skagway is the White Pass and Yukon Railroad
route.
We make an overnight stop at The Northern
Beaver Post before heading down the picturesque
Cassiar Highway. While in Stewart we visit Fish
Creek to watch bears fishing for salmon and
perhaps take a drive to Salmon Glacier.
En route to Smithers we drive through a village with
historic totem poles. The next morning we head
to Prince George, BC, where we spend the night
and get ready for our trip back to the USA. That
evening we have a special deluxe farewell dinner
so we can say good-bye to all of our new friends
we met on the caravan and remember the good
times and fun we all had on our dream vacation to
Alaska and “The Land of the Midnight Sun.”
Please note: The 34-day
Alaska Express and 43-day Alaska-Calgary Stampede
tours do not stop in Chicken, Valdez or city of
Kenai. |
